Health and Nutrition Resources

Health and nutrition are very important topics that students should learn about even if their schools don't cover them in depth. Our tutors are always here to help students become more comfortable learning about these topics, but for those who want to study more on their own time and don't know where to start, we've compiled a list of resources to aid our students in their quest for knowledge.

The Human Body and Anatomy

  • An Interactive Look at the Human Body: This interactive overview shows students all the different parts of the body and gives them information about them as they examine it in detail.
  • The Nervous System: This page gives an easy to follow overview of human and animal nervous systems and how it works.
  • Human Digestive System: This resource gives an overview of what happens to food after you eat it and why each part of the digestive system is imperative to keeping people healthy.
  • Circulatory System Crossword Puzzle: This educational game uses students' knowledge of vocabulary words to complete this crossword puzzle.
  • The Skeletal System: Students can follow along with the slide show about the skeletal system and why it's important and then they can test their knowledge with the quiz at the end.

Exercise and the Food Pyramid

  • Home Workouts for Kids: This page offers a list of free videos kids and adults alike can try at home to get fit!
  • Gameday Nutrition Tips for Young Athletes: For students who compete in sports, it's important that they eat right to be at peak performance levels and this page offers tips for student-athletes to try out.
  • Healthy Eating Q&A: This Q&A from the U.S. Department of Agriculture has nutrition experts answering common questions kids have about eating better and maintaining a healthy diet.
  • Healthy Habits: In this game, students have to help Cookie Monster win the Cookie Games using good health habits.
  • MyPlate Quiz: Students can answer questions about their health habits in this quiz and they'll receive some tips on how to make healthier choices.

Bullying

  • Bullying: This resource from the American Psychological Association is a great starting point for kids to learn about bullying and cyberbullying and how kids and adults alike can prevent it.
  • About Bullying and Cyberbullying: This anti-bullying organization provides great information for kids to look at to truly understand what bullying is, how to spot it, and what can be done about it.
  • Safe Supported Learning: Social Bullying (PDF): This page discusses what bullying is as well as the correlation, consequences, and how it can be prevented.
  • How Can You Help?: This anti-bullying organization gives out tips and tricks for how anybody can help reduce bullying in their community.
  • What Can You Do to Prevent Cyberbullying?: This article discusses how anybody can prevent being cyberbullied and what to do when you see cyberbullying happening in front of you.

Internet Safety

  • Internet Safety: Playing it Safe While Playing Online (PDF): This fun internet safety book offers definitions for many of the common phrases kids may hear while browsing the Internet.
  • Kids Rules for Online Safety: These ten rules for using the Internet can be a great starting point for young children who are just getting started playing online so they can feel safe and supported while exploring the web.
  • Online Safety Quiz: How does your Internet safety knowledge stack up? Students can test their knowledge and learn tidbits on how to keep themselves safe while browsing the Internet.
  • Safe Online Surfing: Students can choose their grade level and read the instructions to complete all the games and take the Internet safety quiz at the end.
